Daily School Procedures
Serving Children Ages: 2 – 6 years old
Hours of Operation
Sharmila Montessori House of Children operating hours are between7:30am to 6:00pm.All programs are available for five days only. (Monday to Friday)
The academic year is from mid- August through early June. Since Montessori provides individualized learning, Primary children and Kindergarten children, may begin at any time during the school year.
Our calendar is matched to the Redwood City Elementary regular school calendar.
Sharmila Montessori House of Children offers a fun filled summer school program from June to August. Hours are between7:30am to 6:00pm We are offered in short 2 week sessions, or monthly. The summer program includes water play, cooking activities, computer etc… Although the summer is a more relaxing environment for children, the kids still have opportunities to work with Montessori materials to continue learning academic skills. Using the Montessori approach, children explore and learn new skills or practice previously taught skills through fun and interesting themes. This program covers Language, Math, Science, Geography, Art & Craft and practical life experiences.
The State Department of Health requires that children be signed in and out each morning and afternoon by the parent or responsible party. Staff will hand the sign-in/sign-out sheets to the parent please make sure to sign your child in or out.
Parent Communication Log
Parent or responsible party is responsible for logging any Changes in pick-up Time/People, Vacation plans, Updates on Over-night Illness, Scrapes and Bruises, etc. in the Parent Communication Log.
Your child should wear comfortable and easy-to-clean clothing to school, as our children often work on the floor and outside almost every day. Children should be able to take clothing on and off by themselves, and clothing should be labeled with your child’s name. All children are expected to be dressed appropriately for the weather so that they can have time outside each day except during rain. Shoes with no laces and no sandals. Please send a clear plastic container containing a complete change of clothes, pants, underpants, shirt, and socks. Label every item, clothes, lunch boxes, coats, jackets, that belong to your child and she/he may bring it to school.
Children bring their own lunch to school each day. Please label your child(ren)’s lunch boxes. Please avoid sending anything with artificial coloring, flavoring or lots of sugar, such as pop tarts, sweetened cereals. Send fresh vegetable such as celery, cucumber, lettuce, carrots, and fresh fruits, like bananas, apples, oranges, raisins, dried fruits (already peeled or cut into sections). Cut sandwiches in quarters since it will be easier for your child. And remember that children’s work at school is directly affected by the nutritional quality of their meals. Take your time and read the ingredients on juice boxes, if it is not natural juice please do not send it to school.
Children will be served with a morning and afternoon snack, (Cost $25.00 per month) which shall be fresh fruits, crackers and cookies.If you wish to send special snack for your child and his/her classmates, you may do so.
You may send a blanket and a stuffed animal.Please do not send pillows orsleeping bags. Your child(ren) should not bring guns, little objects, money, marbles, lipsticks, small dolls, coins, jacks and anything else which could cause a child to choke.
Toilet Training Fees
Sharmila Montessori House of Children will charge a monthly fee of $200.00 for toilet training a child for the time he / she is in school. Parents must cooperate with the process at home to ensure that the child is toilet trained in a timely manner.
There are no refunds for holidays, family vacations or absence due to sickness. If your child can not come to school, please call us and let us know in the morning.
Sharmila Montessori House of Children has an open door policy. Parents are more than welcome to cooperate in class rooms as volunteers because we want them to know and to see what their children are doing. If you wish to volunteer on any specific day please check with us first.
According to the state law “Over the counter” medications will not be given to any school age child by school staff. Please do not send any medicine in your child(ren)’s lunch boxes. Please bring the medicine to us in its original container with the child’s name and the doctor’s instruction printed on the front. School must have the daily signed Medication Request Form in file in order to administer the medication.
If your child has a bad cough, sore throat, headache, upset stomach or running a fever, do not send her/him to school. The child must be free of fever for 24 hours without medication before returning to school. When a child becomes sick at school, they will be separated from the other children, and a parent will be called to pick them up. If the school is unable to contact the parent(s), the others on the Emergency card will be telephoned to arrange for pick-up. In some instances a doctor’s note may be required before the child will be allowed to return to school. Please notify us if your child has a contagious disease because we need to alert other parents.
Birthdays and Special Celebrations
We encourage children to celebrate their birthday by making a poster of their life with the help of their parents. A picture from each year should be included, with captions explaining each picture. If you wish you may bring in pictures of the child for each year of his/her life with a special snack on that day. Please send healthy snacks — all must be store brought and labeled. The poster will be displayed all week, and we will talk about the pictures on the child’s birthday.
There shall be two conferences during the school year. Parents will be notified at least one week prior to the conference day. If you wish to have more conferences during the year, please let us know and required arrangements will be made in this regard.
Child Care: Late Pick up Policy
Occasional or Emergency Child Care is available at the cost of $ 5.OO an Hour before school from 7:30 a.m. till 9:00 a.m. and after school from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Availability will be determined by the students.
Tuition Payment Policy
Plan A: Tuition is computed for a school year of 180 days, and is payable yearly, in one installment. A five percent fee deduction will apply when utilizing this plan.
Plan B: This plan divides the yearly tuition into ten (10) equal installments with the first installment due upon the first day the child attends classes. The remaining installments are due before the first day of each month thereafter.
- Tuition installments paid after the 1st day of the month, are assessed a late charge of $20, payable at the same time the delinquent payment is received.
- Returned checks will be charged a $20.00 returned check fee.
- A parent using Plan B, who delays payment of a tuition installment past the 25th of the month due, without written permission of the Administrator or Director, must withdraw his/her child from the School no later than the last school day of that month.
